News from the Sidewalk

CHALK4PEACE is the global chalk art project about peace. We celebrate our eleventh year as a worldwide event encouraging peace. CHALK4PEACE, Inc.  is a 501(c)(3) non-profit arts organization.

We've had more than 1000 events in 50 countries and have covered more than 12 miles of pavement with messages and visions of peace in sidewalk chalk...

We believe in  "Drawing the World Together..."

CHALK4PEACE participated in the Peace Day Student Observance at the United Nations in New York City in 2016 to honor the International Day of Peace. Hundreds of thousands of young artists of all ages have joined us since 2005.

Our goal: ONE MILLION artists Chalking 4 Peace at the same time...

Because we need Peace...Now more than ever...

CHALK4PEACE observes Dr. King's birthday this year with TWO events...

CHALK4PEACE will join the Thacher School in Ojai, CA with a Service to the Community theme during their Dr. MLK, Jr. symposiums, including C4P for the eighth year. Thanks to a collection of the greatest firefighters on the planet and some critical luck with the breezes that blew, the school was saved from the ravages of the Thomas Fire.  The C4P event will take place on the Pergola Sunday afternoon, January 14. The event is open to the Thacher Family, Alumni and close friends.

The next day, January 15, the Ojai Valley Youth Foundation will hold their Dr. King observance with a star studded collection of speakers and entertainers, with County Supervisor Das Williams delivering the Keynote address. The event once again takes place around the Libbey Fountain in downtown Ojai. CHALK4PEACE is helping to sponsor the event and will be there to encourage artistic messages of peace. This is the third time C4P has joined OVYF for projects involving peace, justice and harmony. Ojai has been through a lot recently, surrounded and encroached by the largest wildfire in California history; it made it through and is a shining example of community pulling together in tumultuous times. All are invited.

You helped us raise More Than $2000 during the #GivingTuesday fundraiser!

CHALK4PEACE saw generosity in a big way during our fundraising push around the #GivingTuesday Network For Good Facebook platform. We received enough $$$ to provide a stick of sidewalk chalk to more than 20,000 students! This is fantastic! Thank you friends of CHALK4PEACE for helping us draw the world together.  We so appreciate the efforts made by so many wonderful folks. Whether it was $5 or a thousand, it all matters so much. Your support is helping us encourage peace on the planet. We will keep you posted... you've brightened our Holidays with your generosity! Blessings to you and yours! May you find love, peace, joy, and comfort in the Holiday Season and New Year.

Encouraging CHALK4PEACE as a global meditation to bring peace...

During a discussion at the height of the Iraq & Afghanistan wars in ‘03 about the grassroots word of mouth awareness for CHALK4PEACE that was causing it to grow into an event on more than one continent, the question arose- how will this bring peace? In a perfect world, if everyone is given a piece of chalk and asked to express “what does Peace look like to you?”....three things happen-

1) -as everyone goes out to draw on their sidewalk, playground or parking lot, strangers meet as they draw and write, and then...they are no longer strangers;

2) -since the effort it takes to make one’s mark with chalk on the ground makes holding any sort of weapon quite awkward, to engage in this activity, one must put down all weapons and be physically focused completely away from warlike behavior;

3) -and the collective consciousness of millions of people simultaneously creating gestures with chalk about Peace in public during a global ceasefire (like Peace Day) could possibly have create an energy on world peace tantamount to the annual million youth Buddhist meditations at Wat Phra Dhammakaya Temple in Thailand. We want arrange for at least one million people simultaneously chalking 4 peace worldwide. We'd like to think it would, at least temporarily, change humanity's essential vibe.

But we won’t know until we do it.
