CHALK4PEACE-Open Alternative School 2015

The Open Alternative School of Santa Barbara, CA held its 2nd CHALK4PEACE on June 2, 2015. Alejandra Tashma organized the schoolwide event with the theme of "Save the Ocean Save the Planet"; and more than 160 CHALKSTARS shared their inspirational messages of hope, peace and concern for the environment.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 OAS practices a multi-grades creative team effort that utilizes the older students being mentors for the younger ones. Another school that practices this sort of C4P teamwork in S. California is the Gooden School of Sierra Madre.

OAS is joining CHALK4PEACE again this September as part of the International Day of Peace. We celebrate the Open Alternative School for their efforts to show the world what peace means to them!

Both the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts are big fans of CHALK4PEACE.

Den Mothers Heather Riker Johnson and Beth Peirce Campbell have organized CHALK4PEACE events in Martinsburg, WV and Alexandria, VA and have introduced CHALK4PEACE as an important  approach to peaceful cooperation and are considering a CHALK4PEACE emblem for a merit badge. We encourage a merit badge for CHALK4PEACE!

CHALK4PEACE invited to "Draw FergUSon Together: A Vision of Peace" at St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley

CHALK4PEACE has been invited to Ferguson, Missouri by St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley to participate in "Drawing FergUSon Together: A Vision of Peace"  as part of a Social Justice Summit/Weekend of Healing  Sept. 18-19. We are working closely with the College and Community leaders to bring the population of Ferguson together with a symposium of discussion, message and visions of peace and reconciliation. St. Louis Community College has been involved in CHALK4PEACE as a peace, art and photographic project since 2007. It's been guided by Janice Nesser, Professor of Photography and Chair of the Arts and Humanities Dept. 

It is a great honor for CHALK4PEACE to be selected to be part of the healing process for the Community of Ferguson. C4P will be documenting the weekend with the College and Paradigm Pictures. Documenting this event as a film is the focus of our impending Indiegogo campaign.
